Maths week at TCC (12-16 March)

During this year’s Maths Week students from Years 7 to 10 were placed in House Teams to take part in a whole year group competition. The challenge was a Kahoot quiz with 3 sections of questions. One section was questions based in and around College, one was general knowledge, and one was based on observation and memory using posters which had been placed around the College in the week before Maths Week. All of the questions and answers were maths based. Students worked hard to gain as many points as possible for their House team.

Overall best House (average points score) was Tregonhawke.

Best overall team was a Year 9 Polhawn team comprising Eliza, Eleanor, Olivia, and Kate.

Well done to all teams who took part.

Maths Week also saw the return of the annual ‘Pi competition’ in which students from various year groups tried to remember as many correctly ordered digits of pi as they could. Sam, last year’s winner, was confident he could remember over 200 digits of pi. However, writing over 200 digits of pi, one small mistake from Sam on the 108th digit let in Tom, who managed to recall 109 digits! It was that close. Well done to all the students who took part. Everyone was given a prize for taking part….an apple pie of course!

This year’s top 3 students were:

1st place with 109 digits – Tom (Year 13)

2nd place with 107 digits – Sam (Year 13)

3rd place with 73  digits – Luke (Year 9)
