National Badminton Championships

Well done to the College badminton teams who took part in the East Cornwall round of the National Badminton Championships at Saltash this week. Twenty five TCC students competed in singles and doubles matches, many in their first ever badminton competition, against teams from Liskeard, Wadebridge, and Launceston.

The Year 9 girls’ team started the tournament with a bang by winning all three rounds to come 1st overall. They played fifteen matches, losing only two, to qualify for the County final in December. The Year 10 girls quickly followed on by winning all three rounds again, only losing 2 matches, to qualify and join the Year 9s at the County final. The girls showed great team spirit, fighting back to win several games when behind and giving excellent support and humour from the side of the courts.
Year 9: Holly T, Holly M, Keeley, Maddie, Marley, Mia, Bridgette
Year 10: Abi, Ruby, Emily, Hannah, Maddie, Rosie, Lucy

The Year 8 boys showed great enthusiasm and improved with each round and with only four players they had to play every match without a rest. They lost the first round, won the second round and faced a deciding doubles match at the end of the day, with Ethan and Seb paired, against a strong Year 9 boys pair from Liskeard. Despite going behind several times they showed great fighting spirit to come back to win 16- 14 therefore coming 2nd overall and also qualifying for the Cornwall finals.
Team: Seb, Ethan, William, Josh

The Year 10 boys’ team came up against some strong Year 11 opposition but improved with each round and kept their heads up. They showed good humour and team spirit and now know what to work on for next year.

Team : Ed, Hayden, Harry, Taran, Jude, Zach, Sorren

Well done to everyone who took part with such enthusiasm and team spirit.
