Parent Governor Vacancy

Torpoint Community College has a vacancy on the governing body for the category of Parent Governor.  Parents/carers/guardians of student’s on roll at the College are invited to stand for election as a parent governor, or nominate another parent/carer/guardian for election.  Please note that you cannot seek nomination if you are an elected member of the County Council or if you are contracted to work at the College for 500 hours or more per academic year.

The governing body, with the Headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the College.  Governing bodies are expected to take a pro-active role and to offer challenge and support in equal measures.  Governing bodies also have three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the College and its pupils;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the College and making sure its money is well spent.

Being a governor can be a worthwhile experience.  It is hoped that, after careful consideration, you will take an active part in supporting the governing body either by standing for election, by nominating another parent, or by voting for the candidates of your choice.

No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the College and be prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work.  However, we would particularly welcome nominations from parents with Finance and Human Resources skills.

If you are interested in becoming a parent governor and would like a nomination form and further details, please contact Mrs Lynn Trotter by email: trotter.l@torpoint.cornwall.sch.uk, or download and complete the forms below– documentation can also be collected from the College reception from Friday 15th January 2016. – the completed documentation must be with the Returning Officer,  Mrs Trotter by 12 noon on Friday 29th January 2016.
