The Gideons International Visit

The Gideons International Visit

During the week of Monday 20 June Year 7 students at Torpoint Community College were visited in Ethics by “The Gideons International” , who chose the name Gideons after an Old Testament leader who, with a few chosen men, did work for God.

The Gideons became established in Britain in 1949 and to date over 30 million Gideon Bibles and Testaments have been presented nationally. They commented that they were aware that many people in Britain have never seen a Bible and may be uncertain what it is”.

Each year they present personal copies of the New Testament and Psalms to children in thousands of British secondary schools and to many University and College students.

Our students at TCC were given the opportunity to question the speakers on their beliefs and to investigate the content and themes of the new testament; as well as to voluntarily accept a free gift of a small red new testament. Mrs Fry was extremely proud of how maturely all Year 7 students responded, especially as all students exhibited our college values – respect, preparation and focus! Well done Year7!
