 Torpoint Students Take Part In “Crimp Off”

 A group of year 9 Food Technology students from Torpoint Community College rose to the challenge of crimping traditional Cornish pasties this week.  The students are all following a Scheme of Learning focused around “Cornish Foods” including traditional Cornish produce, with a heavy emphasis on fresh, local and seasonal ingredients and cooking recipes that showcase these to their best.

 An expert crimper from Proper Cornish, the UK’s leading Cornish pasty manufacturer based in Bodmin, led the crimping session giving a demonstration on how to fill, close and crimp a pasty to perfection. The students then had an opportunity to practice their skills before taking part in a “crimp off” where they had to crimp two pasties in two minutes.

 The final pasties were then judged by Proper Cornish and a prize was awarded for the fastest and neatest crimped pasty within the allocated time. 

The students will now develop their crimping skills as well as their imagination as they are required to design and make a new flavour pasty that will be judged in two weeks time again by Proper Cornish.

 A fun, challenging and rewarding lesson was had by all.
