Video Conferencing Apps – Concern about Zoom

It has been lovely to see all the excellent uses of the internet over this lockdown period as a way to keep in touch with loved ones and friends. We are very lucky to have this excellent resource at our disposal!
However, we have had several concerning reports this week of hacking/hijacking taking place on the video conferencing app ‘Zoom’, where unknown strangers gain access to the meetings and post/say something inappropriate. We felt it was important to make the community aware of this and to signpost you towards some excellent guidance. I’ve included a guide for parents/carers of primary school age children too as I know many of you have younger siblings.
Below are some very useful links to help you check security settings to ensure greater security where using ‘Zoom’, or other video conferencing apps that are popular and widely used at present. The excellent website, Net Aware, has specific guides to a wide variety of apps if you use the search bar at the top of the Net Aware website.

If you have any concerns regarding online safety, please let myself or the College’s Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Lear, know.

I sincerely hope you are all safe and well, and please do get in touch if there is anything we can do to help.
