Year 8 Garden’s For Life Poster Competition
Year 8 started their weekly gardening programme during science lessons on their return to school after the Easter holidays. The first job was to sow seeds indoors and to learn how to work outdoors in the garden. Part of this was a homework to make a poster to be entered into a competition for the best entry. Students used a range of techniques from ICT to making a collage, felt tips and pencils to an original cut out design. These were on display during our Open Evening on the 6th June and now within the department.
The seedlings have now been transplanted outside – peas, bean, courgette and pumpkins with carrots, radish, lettuce and beetroot being sown outside direct. Some classes are growing potatoes as well.
Appreciations must go to the members of the Science Department for facilitating this unique educational experience, especially the team of Science technicians who are essential for the well-being of the students plants (regular watering/pest watch) and the garden area in general.
The winners of the competition were:
Kate Teppin
Brandon Calver
Jess Welch
Joe Fiore-Smith
Louisa Maunder
Liam Salt
Lewis Cook
Eleanor Hardie
Eliza Baker
Allister Starkey
Jake Beck
Marcus Lazenby
They each received Merits for their efforts and an edible treat for break time.
Well done Year 8!
