Year 9 Careers Event

Year 9 Careers Event

Year 9 students took part in a Careers Speed Networking Event on 2nd May where they got to meet a huge range of employers and employees from different organisations, asking questions to find out about their career, qualifications and pathway to employment. The students were very engaged and  several visitors remarked how polite they were – well done to all students! This is part of the College’s work to meet the Gatsby benchmarks for effective Careers Provision. We would like to thank the following for taking part in this event:

  • James Gilchrist – Naval Architect, Babcock
  • Bernadette Parkinson –  Plymouth Construction
  • Fiona Coates and Alan Joslin – Devonport Jobcentre Plus
  • Charlotte Olver – Galliford Try Skills Academy, Exeter
  • Katy Griffiths – Senior Clinical Educator for Theatres at Derriford Hospital – NHS.
  • Adrian Cocks – Project Manager for Gilbert & Goode, Cornwall
  • Hazel Meale – Aftercare Co-ordinator, Gilbert & Goode.
  • Ian Coote – Architectural Technologist for David Wilson Partnership, North Devon
  • Andrew Reed – Site Manager, for BAM Construction, working on Newquay Tretherras School
  • Joselyn Montgomery-Peters, Devonshires Garage owner, Torpoint (and ex pupil)
  • Graham Smith – Fire Fighter (and ex pupil)
  • Sarah Phillips – Chief Executive Plymouth Pavilions (and ex pupil)

The event was organised by the Careers Leader at TCC, Davina Bray along with the College’s Enterprise Adviser, Julie Putman (another ex student!) as well as our Enterprise Coordinator from the Careers and Enterprise Company, David Sellars. We would like to thank Julie for her excellent help and support and links to local employers and organisations – her help has been invaluable this year for the continuing development of Careers Education and provision at TCC. Please contact Davina Bray at the College if you would like to take part in a future careers event or could provide a work experience placement for students.
