Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day

We would like to extend a warm invitation to Torpoint Community College’s commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day in 2020. This will take the form of an art exhibition, to be open for viewing on Friday 24th January from 4.00pm, in the Kensa Gallery at Torpoint Community College. We aim to close the gallery at 6.30pm.

Every student across Key Stage 3 has worked extremely hard to contribute to a piece of art work for the art exhibition. This year, the theme of Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘Stand Together’ and the student’s art work holds this theme at its heart.

You may recall that we were honoured to receive a survivor of the Holocaust, Mala Tribich MBE, to our College two years ago to work with staff on delivering challenging subjects to students. When responding to a question from a member of staff, Mala gave us an instruction…to ‘tell the stories of those who can not’.

We hope, that in our own way, we have begun to tell these stories and that by standing together, we have begun to respond to Mala’s request, commemorating those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

If you are able to attend, you would be most welcome. Please could you contact Mrs Lane at the College to indicate if any special requirements are needed. You can either telephone the College, or email her directly on lane.c@torpoint.cornwall.sch.uk We look forward to welcoming you to our College on the eve of this very important national event.
