Progress with the 3G Pitch Project and Sports Hall Update

Torpoint Town Council and Torpoint Community College are continuing to work together to explore the development of a long-term operational partnership to help secure the future of community sport provision in Torpoint.

Following consideration of a recently completed options appraisal, representatives from both organisations met to discuss the future management and operation of the community sports facilities, including the proposed new 3G artificial grass pitch.  While no formal decisions have yet been taken, the aim is to safeguard community access, support student use, and help facilitate the delivery of the proposed 3G pitch project.

Torpoint Community College has a significant programme of capital works scheduled for the Sports Hall this summer, the majority of which is funded through Cornwall Council, and it is planning to reopen the facility for community lettings in September.  This will be an interim measure until such time as there is certainty regarding the future of the 3G pitch project, and a decision is made in respect of the proposals currently being explored by the Town Council and the College.

As part of the next phase, the Council and College will jointly explore governance arrangements, operational responsibilities, financial principles and potential partnership agreements over the summer months.  Discussions will also continue with key stakeholders, sports clubs and funding partners to ensure that any future arrangements align with local needs and the requirements of the Football Foundation, with formal recommendations and decisions expected to be concluded by the end of September.

The Town Council and Torpoint Community College are committed to keeping residents informed.

The group is also working with local football clubs and the Argyle Community Trust who will be key to the delivery of football and wider sporting outcomes and support.

Community engagement and support will be key to the success of the project. This has already started and there is lots planned over the comings weeks and months. Updates on the progress of the project, and further information on the facility itself, will be added to this page as it becomes available.
