Teacher Strike Action – Thursday 2nd March 2023

Next week is the second of four days of teacher strikes announced by the NEU to take place in this region. As with the strike action in February, there is uncertainty over how many teachers will actually take strike action on Thursday 2nd March. However, based on the information that is available to me the College will remain open for students in Years 11, 12 and 13 and for the most vulnerable students for whom a Support School provision will be put in place, these students will be contacted by the College. For the remainder of the students i.e., those in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 unfortunately they will have to remain at home on this day. Teachers of these year groups will be asked to direct their students to online resources they can use for the day they are not at school. I appreciate the disruption this may cause to many of you, but unfortunately this is beyond our control.

Students in Years 11, 12 and 13 will follow their normal timetable on 2nd March, and if their teacher is absent due to strike action they will be supported with independent study during that lesson. This will be a normal day for these students for which they are expected to attend; absences will be marked as unauthorised if the correct absence procedure isn’t followed. Details on the Support School arrangements will be shared with the students and parents as necessary. Please note the remaining strike dates that may impact on the College are 15th and 16th March.

Kind regards,

Dr Jeremy Plumb
