Extra -curricular sport

The PE Department has seen an exceptional attendance to extra-curricular clubs again this half term

Netball

Netball remains popular at College this year with over 100 girls attending Miss Pearson’s and Miss Milford’s weekly practices this half term , with multiple teams in Year 7 through to Sixth Form. East Cornwall fixtures continue after half term and some teams will also compete at the County National Cup tournaments at Penryn before Christmas. The older teams are really looking forward to a trip to Bath University in December to watch the Team Bath Tri tournament matches against Wasps and Saracens

The Under 16s netball team travelled to Penryn last Saturday for the National Cup County tournament. It was great to see seventeen teams represented from across Cornwall with over 200 girls competing.

The standard of netball was very high and our girls had to really raise their game. Strong captaincy and control of the court from Holly,  effective set plays in attack from Holly, Maddie, and Alice and solid shooting from Alice, Freya and Isabelle R in the first three games saw excellent teamwork and match play. Sky, Sophie and Isabelle M were superb in defence making it very hard for the opposing team to get the ball in to shoot. They team performed incredibly well beating Roseland 12-3, Camelford 13-3, and Wadebridge 9-3. They were disappointed to fight back after half time to Cambourne to lose in the final seconds 9-8. With several injuries, a bad fall and very tired legs our Year 10 reserves were relied on heavily in the final two matches with Lucy and Willow stepping up and playing excellently in positions they don’t normally play. The girl’s gave everything against tough teams in the final two matches to lose 8-6 to St Ives and 8-3 to Truro.

Well done ! You did the College proud with many positive comments made about your teamwork and team spirit by officials

Cross Country

Torpoint CC has over 20 runners challenging themselves at Mr Farmer’s weekly cross country sessions. Last week’s write up declared wins from Amy W in Year 7 and Josh B in Year 9 at the first East Cornwall league races. Our teams are travelling to Newquay this week for the County round of the English School’s and we look forward to hearing from Mr Farmer on how they get on

Boys Football

Mr Evan’s boy’s football has over 60 students training weekly from Year 7-10 with National Cup matches coming up quickly for all teams after half term

Girls Football

We are delighted that girl’s football has seen a massive increase in popularity with over 40 girls attending Mis Rowe’s training sessions. Again, these girls have junior and senior teams playing in the East Cornwall league fixtures and we look forward to the next set of matches at Callington after half term

Basketball

Basketball numbers continue to increase this year with Mr Farmer seeing over 30 students from Year 7-11 training weekly towards fixtures coming up in Cornwall and Plymouth before Christmas

Lunchtime Clubs

Miss Rowe’s lunchtime table tennis club is well attended and we will try to start badminton and fitness club after half term

We are grateful to our student leaders who give their time regularly  to come and help us at our Clubs: the following have been really dedicated in coming to coach and officiate. Thank you to Rosie, Mia, Nia, Thea, Teagan, Ebby and Flo at netball club, Alex at basketball, Dan at cross Country, and Imogen at girl’s football
