Teacher Strike Action – Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023
The National Education Union has recently announced teacher strike action to take place on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July.
As with the previous strike action last term, there is uncertainty over how many teachers will actually take strike action on these days. Based on the information that is available to me, and the fact this action is taking place during a particularly busy week, please find attached the outline plan that has been put in place for the strike days. Please note every effort has been made to continue with the Year 7, 8 and 9 trips scheduled for Friday 7th July and I can confirm they will be going ahead as planned. A Support School provision will also be put in place for our most vulnerable students; these students will be contacted by the College.
Teachers of year groups/students having to stay home will be asked to direct their students to online resources they can use for the day they are not at school. I appreciate the disruption this may cause to many of you again, but unfortunately this is beyond our control.
Students in Year 12 will follow their normal timetable on both days. If their teacher is absent due to strike action they will be supported with independent study during that lesson. This will be a normal day for these students for which they are expected to attend; absences will be marked as unauthorised if the correct absence procedure isn’t followed. Details on the Support School arrangements will be shared with the students and parents as necessary.
Please note there will be a limited catering provision on both strike days. If your child is in school on the 5th and or 7th July, and they are not eligible for Free School Meals, please ensure they bring a packed lunch and snacks with them.
Kind regards
Dr Jeremy Plumb
