Ten Tors Training – First Overnight Expedition
Students experienced their first overnight expedition on 19th and 20th March and many realised why the Ten Tors is a challenge. Although the sun was out on both days, Saturday proved particularly difficult with extremely strong winds – even the adult volunteers had difficulty standing up in it!. The teams set off from the Y-Junction near Okehampton Camp and then cut across to the west towards Shortacombe. A massive thank you to the volunteers who kept a keen eye on the students and were able to intercept them when they went off course.
The winds didn’t let up overnight on Saturday but the students were up and ready to restart from the Y-junction again on the Sunday morning. They followed an adjusted route due to concerns that the winds would not drop. They successfully finished at Bennett’s Cross car park, not far from the Warren House Inn. All were tired, a bit achy and with some blisters but proud they had completed the expedition- well done to all involved.
The next walk is the all-important selection walk – good luck to everyone.
